Hanoi (VNA) – President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on June 5, visited and delivered gifts to elderly residents of northern Hai Duong province on the occasion of the 81st Vietnamese Day of the Elderly (June 6).
The President sent his best regards to Pham Thi Luu, a 103-year-old woman from Cau Lam village, Pham Tran commune, Gia Loc district, who is a prestigious member of the local community, as well as 15 elderly people exceptional and representatives of the Association of the elderly of the province.
On behalf of the Party and the State, the President pointed out that the Party and the State always pay close attention to the care of the elderly.
He praised the Hai Duong Association of old people for its efforts to diversify its activities, forming 1860 clubs for local seniors, helping to promote their role in society, especially in the prevention and control of COVID-19.
The President expressed the hope that in times to come, the Vietnam Elderly Association at all levels will continue to help implement Party and state policies on the elderly, while proposing ideas for implementing the program of providing health care services to the elderly until 2030 and perfecting the national target program on the elderly in the new period.
He called on ministries, sectors, agencies and localities to continue designing appropriate policies to accommodate an “age of the elderly” amid the aging population period.
Visiting Tan Minh Duc cooperative in Pham Tran commune, Gia Loc district, which is headed by an elderly person, the president hailed the cooperative’s increase in membership and its use of technology in production which brought higher income to members./.
