My nomination for the Upper House victory of the lower stratum of society: Khatana


Jammu, September 11: Indian President Draupadi Murmu on Saturday appointed Er. Gulam Ali Khatana, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a Gujjar Muslim from the Bathindi region of Jammu for Rajya Sabha.

A day after his appointment, J&K BJP organized a program to congratulate and honor Khatana at the party office, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu. Later in the day, J&K BJP spokesman Khatana held a rally to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for keeping his promise of “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas”.

Speaking to reporters in Jammu, Khatana, 51, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his decision and said, “Modi Hai To Mumkin Hai (With Modi, it’s possible).”

He added that he was working for the upliftment of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Prime Minister Modi has delivered on his promise to uplift the neglected sections of society by appointing an ordinary worker from a community that has been neglected for the past 70 years,” he said.

“My appointment to the Upper House of Parliament is the victory of the poor, BPL and Antyodaya section of society,” he said.

Khatana will be the only Jammu and Kashmir member in the Rajya Sabha. All four members of J&K’s Rajya Sabha had completed their terms in February 2021. Elections for J&K vacancies in the Upper House of Parliament could not be held due to the delay in assembly ballots.

Who is Khatana?

Born in Bathindi area of ​​Jammu on March 1, 1971, Khatana completed his primary education from a government primary school in Bathindi, he did his secondary education from government high school Sunjwan and government high school (boys) Gandhi Nagar, Jammu . Subsequently, Khatana started his student politics as a Jammu Joint Students’ Federation (JJSF) activist at Jammu’s MAM College in 1992. A final year student at MAM College, Khatana left his undergraduate course mid- way and joined an engineering college in Jammu to complete his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

“While I was studying in Jammu, I completed practical work from a college in Kurukshetra, Haryana,” Khatana told The Rising Kashmir.

In 2001 Er. Gulam Ali Khatana joined the National Panthers Party led by Prof. Bhim Singh and served in different positions within the party viz. Provincial President, Political Secretary to the President, State Youth President and General Secretary.

In the 2008 elections for the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir, Khatana was put forward as the candidate of the Panthers Party from the Nagrota region of Jammu, but he lost the elections due to some differences with the Supremo of Gone from the Panthers, Professor Bhim Singh.

Khatana then joined the RSS and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2008 and has held various positions in the party since then, including National Secretary of Tribal and Minority Morcha, Prabhari ST and Minority Morcha, J&K BJP; Secretary of State, J&K BJP and Head of Ramban District. Khatana also worked in the JK Study Group formed and led by BJP National Chairman Raj Nath Singh. He was also instrumental in organizing programs for Muslims across India at Jammu Club advocating for the removal of Section 370. The program was also attended by BJP National General Secretary Ram Lall; boss, Muslim Rashtra Manch, Indresh Kumar; former union minister Shahnawaz Hussain and other prominent religious and social leaders.

Khatana also worked as National Organizer of Muslim Rashtiya Manch and Prabhari J&K, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.
