Mayo County Council seeks organization to take over popular camping park

Mayo County Council is looking for organizations to take over a popular caravan park on Achill Island, off the west coast of Ireland.

The council is seeking expressions of interest from suitable organizations to take over a lease for the Keel Sandybanks Caravan & Camping Park on the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland.

The park has been a popular camping and caravanning spot for the past three decades and is currently a Fáilte Ireland 4-star rated site. It must be maintained each year for the duration of the lease.

The five-hectare park includes two separate toilet blocks and showers, an office, a laundry room, a games room, a kitchen and storage rooms. It also has external cold water showers in addition to sewage, electricity, natural gas and water facilities.

The park’s internal road system was recently covered in tarmac, while its exterior lighting system was recently upgraded to incorporate LED lights.

Sandybanks Caravan & Camping Park is located in one of the must-see locations along the Wild Atlantic Way, giving campers access to some of Ireland’s finest beaches including Keel Strand and Keem Bay.

The park is located a short walk from Keel Beach and is adjacent to Achill Island Golf Club and Achill Surf School and Adventure and Activity Centre.

It is also just 15 minutes drive from glorious Keem Beach, said to have been blessed by Saint Patrick during his stay on Croagh Patrick.

Famous travel site Big 7 Travel named Golden Beach the 11th best beach in the world in a list of the World’s 50 Best Beaches last summer.

“The sun may not always shine, but when it does, it’s world class. And yes, it’s beautiful even on a rainy day,” Big 7 Travel said of Keem Bay.
