Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association (VCFA) sent a letter on August 17 calling for donations to the Cuban people to help them overcome the current difficulties.

The letter said the brother cuban country and people are struggling with countless hardships and challenges as they continue to be under a strict embargo amid the COVID-19 pandemic, especially a recent fire at an oil storage facility in an industrial area near of Matanzas which seriously affected the lives of the Cuban people.

On the strength of the special solidarity between the two Parties, States and peoples, the fine tradition of Vietnam and the positive results in supporting the Cuban people in the face of COVID-19, the VCFA called on the ministries, departments, mass organizations , agencies, businesses, cities and provinces, individuals and organizations, philanthropists and lovers of Cuba to unite to continue to help them.

The VCFA will be accepting donations until August 31.

On August 15, Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) President Nguyen Phuong Nga met with Cuban Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen at the Cuban Embassy and expressed her sympathy to the Cuban people affected by the ‘hell.

On this occasion, Nga handed over 1,000 euros collected by VUFO officials and staff to help the Cuban people alleviate their hardships.

The VCFA Vietnamese Alumni Club in Cuba also launched a fundraising campaign on August 8 and has so far raised nearly one billion VND (US$43,400) to support the Cuban people./.
