European Association of Clubs appoints PSG’s Nasser Al-Khelaifi as President

What did Al-Khelaifi say?

Upon his appointment, he said: “I am honored and touched to have been appointed President by my fellow members of the ECA Board of Directors.

“The leadership, integrity and solidarity of our organization have never been more required than at this pivotal moment in European football. I will provide my unconditional commitment to the entire football community: that is, -tell all ECA member clubs from every European nation, as well as the fans and communities they represent.

“I seek, alongside all my fellow members of the Board of Directors and ECA clubs, to strengthen the ECA in its role as the legitimate and unique voice of European clubs. Our game, adored by generations of supporters, will only thrive in unity, and it is our duty as goalkeepers to fulfill this obligation. “

What did the ECA say?

A statement read: “Following the unprecedented events of the past few days which have seen attempts to undermine the entire European football community, the ECA – representing Europe’s leading football clubs – welcomes the decision of its former member clubs not to continue with their so-called “Super League”, following the seismic and universal condemnation of the project by the entire football community and across society as a whole.

“The ECA firmly believes that this project will not succeed because football, at its core, is based on openness, sporting excellence and an inherent bond between all members of the football family.

“Football is for everyone. Recent events have served as a reminder that club owners are just the keepers of their clubs, which are historical beacons that mean so much to fans and their communities.

“The ECA believes that it is the responsibility of each member club to make sure that we develop football and leave it in a better place for the next generation; not to dismantle it just for financial gain.
